Vigo Doubles Its Size

A Birkenhead-based IT support firm adds five new jobs to its workforce in bid for future growth.

When Kurt Beaumont-Jones and Mike Lewis founded Vigo IT Solutions in 2008, they had written two main objectives in the business plan, to be a successful local company and to help develop and harness the skills of young people who wanted a career in the IT industry.

With both targets now reached and surpassed, Birkenhead based Vigo IT Solutions has now firmly established itself as a leading supplier of IT services in the area.

Director, Kurt Beaumont-Jones commented, “Over the last three years we have increased our turnover by more than 300%, and we want to sustain that upward trend.

“We’re now targeting more new clients in the region and needed additional staff to support that growth.”

When asked about the reason behind their success, he added, “I feel it has been down to our focus on building close, long-term relationships with each and every one of our clients. We also work hard to ensure that our engineering team deliver the highest levels of customer service at all times. Each client we have is unique and the more we understand their business needs the more we can help.

“The feedback from clients is that our approach works very well for them, many of them view us as their own internal IT department, we integrate extremely well in that respect.”

Over the past 18 months staff numbers have doubled in order to match the growing demand from a client base throughout the North of England and Wales. This growth has also led to the company expanding their premises at its headquarters in Birkenhead.

As the business has moved forward Kurt and Mike have encouraged growth through staff development, work experience opportunities and apprenticeships.

Director, Mike Lewis continued, “Apprenticeships are key to our approach. We take on promising young individuals and develop their skills to a very high level, whilst also training them to deliver high quality customer service.

“This powerful combination is the key to high client satisfaction levels, which then leads onto further client recommendations and referrals.

“The result is that over half of our staff have come through apprenticeship schemes and progressed on to senior roles within the company. Our Operations Manager and Senior Engineers are all a product of our apprenticeship programme.”

This view was echoed by Alison McGovern, MP Wirral South who recently visited the company, she said, “When I visited Kurt and the team we talked about the company, their roles, the future and what they thought people needed to know about IT.

She added, “I was encouraged to see a team of young people so enthusiastic about their jobs and in particular talk to them about the way they have developed into their roles through the support given to them.”

In recognition of the success of Vigo’s approach they have been invited to become a Patron Member of the Wirral Chamber of Commerce initiative, Young Chamber.

Kurt summarised, “We will always promote and develop young people and give them aspirational and achievable career paths; it’s a key part of our ethos. As such we are more than delighted to become a Patron Member of the Young Chamber initiative. Through this initiative Vigo will have a perfect platform to engage with schools and students so that we can pass on our experience and knowledge, and in the process hopefully inspire the next generation of future IT experts.”
